LHS officials search building after rumor of bomb

Rumors of a bomb threat Tuesday caused Lawrence High School administrators and the school’s resource officer to comb the building in search of anything suspicious.

Principal Steve Nilhas said they found nothing to indicate a threat.

Julie Boyle, communications director for the Lawrence school district, said a student reported that other students were talking about a purported bomb threat.

“The student’s quote was, ‘Have you heard the rumor about the bomb?'” Nilhas said.

“We don’t take any chances. We did our normal security procedures; we swept the building,” he said. A follow-up investigation has not produced evidence of a threat, he said, though students were still being questioned Wednesday.

No classes were disrupted, and the building was not evacuated.

Nilhas said while he can’t control rumors, “I’m just glad that if (students) hear something, they feel comfortable telling us.”
