Rock the Vote aimed at youths

A Rock the Vote/First Time Voter Rally will be held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt.

The event, geared toward junior high and high school students, will feature local candidates and a high school battle of the bands.

Kim Patton, the library’s young adult specialist, says the event is just about promoting voting.

“Even though we know a majority of them won’t be of age to vote, we want to get them excited about the election and civic responsibility,” she said. “We just want to build awareness on what your civic responsibility is, how easy it is to register to vote.”

The event is co-sponsored by Douglas County Kids Voting and the Young Republicans and Young Democrats at both Lawrence and Free State high schools.

Bands are still needed for 30-minute performances. Contact Kim Patton at the library, 843-3833, ext. 121, or kpatton@lawrence.lib.ks.us.
