Roundup: Baldwin tops Louisburg

? Baldwin defeated Louisburg, 20-6, Friday night, avenging the Bulldogs’ two losses against Louisburg last season. The second of those defeats knocked the Bulldogs out of the state semifinals a year ago.

“This is a really nice victory,” Baldwin senior Sam Beecher said. “The coaches didn’t really say anything to us, but us players really wanted to get the win for last year’s seniors. We didn’t care how we won. We just wanted to win.”

Baldwin held Louisburg to six first downs all game, four of which came on a single drive in the fourth quarter. In comparison, Baldwin tallied 12 first downs, despite eight penalties for 75 yards.

Beecher again led his team on offense. He scored the first two touchdowns for Baldwin. Landon Ausherman scampered in to score the final touchdown of the game.

Baldwin begins district play next week against Santa Fe Trail. The contest is Baldwin’s final home game of the regular season.

Valley Falls 33, McLouth 0

Valley Falls – Following two wins to begin the season, McLouth dropped its fourth consecutive game on Friday night. It was the first game this year in which the Bulldogs were shut out.

McLouth (2-4) takes on Jefferson County North next week at home.

Mill Valley 25, Atchison 21

Atchison – Mill Valley’s Nicholas Woods ran a fake punt into the end zone from 71 yards out with less than two minutes remaining for the decisive points in the Jaguars’ victory Friday night.

For the game, Woods carried the ball 24 times for 202 yards and four touchdowns.

Mill Valley (5-1) travels next week to Schlagle for the opening game of district play.

Gardner-Edgerton 41, Eudora 3

Gardner – Eudora became the first team to score on Gardner-Edgerton in three games, but the Trailblazers rolled to an easy victory, building a 27-0 lead by halftime.

Gardner-Edgerton, which is averaging more than 44 points a game, improved to 6-0. Eudora fell to 2-4.

Eudora takes on Perry-Lecompton next week at home.

Perry-Lecompton 28, K.C. Piper 13

Perry – Perry-Lecompton quarterback Shane Gimzo accounted for 399 yards of total offense, helping the Kaws improve to 4-2 this season.

Gimzo carried the ball 27 times for 237 yards on the ground, scoring all four Perry-Lecompton touchdowns. He also completed 8 of 15 passes for 162 yards.

Perry-Lecompton travels to Eudora next week for the first game of district play. Piper (1-5) takes on K.C. Ward at home.

Kansas City Ward 52, Santa Fe Trail 21

Kansas City, Kan. – Phoenix Anschutz threw touchdown passes of 69 and 15 yards to Jesse Bahner in Santa Fe Trail’s road loss.

The Chargers dropped to 0-6 and travel to Baldwin next week. K.C. Ward (3-3) plays at Piper.
