Columbus Day brings few closings

Most government offices and public services in Lawrence, Ottawa, Tonganoxie, Baldwin City, Oskaloosa, De Soto and Eudora will be open Monday, which is Columbus Day. Offices in McLouth will be closed.

Most city, county and state offices will be open in Douglas and Franklin counties.

Federal offices in the General Services Administration and the federal courts will observe the holiday.

Douglas County District Court will also be closed. Jefferson County offices will be closed. Most banks will be closed.

Lawrence Transit System buses will run. City of Lawrence refuse and trash collection not be affected.

The post office will not make deliveries Monday. Express Mail deliveries will be made. Mail pickup from collection boxes will be made as posted on individual boxes. UPS will make normal deliveries.

The customer service department of the Journal-World will be open for calls and walk-ins from 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

USA Today will not be printed on Monday.

Liquor stores are allowed to be open.
