Hamm completes repaving on U.S. 24

Work to resurface a 7.8-mile section of U.S. Highway 24 in Jefferson County is complete.

Crews from Hamm Construction Inc., of Perry, wrapped up the $1.1 million job Wednesday, and all lanes now are open to traffic, said Kim Qualls, a spokeswoman for the Kansas Department of Transportation.

The project stripped the top layer of asphalt from the highway between its intersection with Kansas Highway 237, south of Perry Lake State Park, and U.S. Highway 59 at Williamstown. The materials then were recycled and used to repave the section of highway, which typically handles more than 5,000 vehicles a day.
