Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Oct. 8, 1908: “A cement block factory in Iola has just moved to Kansas City. Why can’t Kansas towns retain the factories that have grown up in them? This happens too often. : Upton Sinclair of New York City, novelist, socialist and one of the foremost writers of the present day, was in Lawrence this afternoon as the guest of Harry Kemp, the tramp poet. Sinclair was on his way to California and said he just wanted to meet Kemp.”
