ECM makes bid for place in history

Ecumenical Christian Ministry building

This week’s University Forum at Ecumenical Christian Ministries focuses on the ministry’s building itself.

Tom Harper, real estate agent, and Leslie Tuttle, Kansas University assistant professor of history, will discuss the building in a program titled “The ECM: Architectural Icon and its Historical Significance for our Community.”

It was constructed in 1960, the same year the photo at right was taken. At right in the photo is the Rev. John Patton, the first pastor at the building.

“We have conducted numerous interviews and researched the ECM over the past several months in preparation for writing the nominations for the Kansas and National Historic Registers,” Harper says. “It will be fun to share some of what we have learned. We have many interesting period photographs to illustrate the ECM’s historic relevance and architectural significance.”

The forum will take place from noon to 1 p.m. at the building, 1204 Oread Ave.
