City wood-chip sale set to begin today

Area residents will have the chance to buy wood chips in bulk this week from the city of Lawrence.

The Parks and Recreation Department’s annual wood chip sale will run today through Saturday.

The sale will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. today and Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The sale will take place at 1420 E. 11th St., just east of Haskell Avenue.

Crews will sell wood chips by the pickup load for $10. Patrons are asked to bring a tarp to prevent the woodchips from littering the roadway.

The wood chips are produced from trees and branches that city crews remove or pick up as yard waste throughout the year. Wood chips can be used as mulch to help trap moisture and reduce runoff in gardens.
