From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 29, 1908: “The question of the fairness of 14 local grocers’ weights and measures is to be decided in the state supreme court. The grocers took legal action after recent state inspections indicated that many were cheating customers. … Whitsel Laming of Lawrence, manager and promoter of the Kansas City and Kansas Southwestern Railway co., will ask for a street car franchise from the city council. He wants to run his interurban line through Lawrence and already has a right of way through North Lawrence.”
