From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 24, 1908: “Officials of two contracting companies were here today to look over the situation with a view of making bids on the construction of an electric transportation line. They seemed pleased with the prospects for the firm here. … There seldom has been as much local football fever as there is right now over the Kansas-Missouri game Nov. 26 in Kansas City. Kansas has an 8-0 record and is sure to win its first Missouri Valley Conference title. Coach Bert Kennedy of the Jayhawks says, simply, ‘We will win.’ Many from here are due to attend.“
