The 57th Annual Bromelsick Christmas party will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 7 at Abe and Jake’s Landing, 8 E. Sixth St.
The Christmas party will feature a traditional visit from Santa, Christmas carols, crafts and activities from around the world. A treat and drink will be provided. Registered Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and Douglas County 4-H members of all ages are invited. Children must be accompanied by their parent, troop, den or group leader and meet their organization’s requirements for adult/child ratio. Tickets are available from Girl Scout, Boy Scout and 4-H leaders.

Douglas County FCE Council met Nov. 10 in the Deal Six Auditorium at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds.
Judy Wulfkuhle, president, announced proclamations were signed by the mayor and the Douglas County Commission chairman to declare National Family And Community Education Week from Oct. 5-11 at the City Commission meeting. She also announced Margaret Fuston received the Area Heart of FCE award for 2008, four members attended the state meeting in Hays and Douglas County received second place for the county action report.
Esther Smith, vice president, reported she collected around 200 books from FCE unit members to donate to the Perry-Lecompton Library.
The next Red Cross Blood Drive will be Jan. 15 at First Christian Church, 1000 Ky., and the Belleview unit will furnish the cookies.
Officers for 2009 were completed with Mary Ann Bradley, vice president, and Reba Bennett, treasurer.
The next meeting will be at 9 a.m. on Jan. 6 in the Deal Six Auditorium at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds.

Douglas County FCE and Kansas State Research and Extension Family and Consumer Sciences announce the December program “Life Is Too Short Not To Enjoy The Fancier Things.” Phyliss Edmonds and Jeanne Hanson, both of Oskaloosa, will be presenting.
The program is free and open to the public. Please pre-register by Nov. 28. The event will be at 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 5 in Deal Six Auditorium at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds. For more information, call 843-7058.
