Michigan stuns No. 4 UCLA

New York — DeShawn Sims scored 18 points and Manny Harris added 15 to help Michigan upset No. 4 UCLA on Thursday night in the semifinals of the 2K Sports Classic.

The Wolverines will face No. 10 Duke in the championship game tonight. The Blue Devils beat Southern Illinois in the first semifinal at Madison Square Garden.

With his team trailing 48-46 with 4:16 left, Stu Douglass hit a long 3-pointer to give Michigan the lead. Darren Collison was stripped on the other end, leading to a layup by Sims that made it 51-48 Wolverines.

UCLA cut the deficit to two when Josh Shipp made one of two free throws with 56 seconds left. After Michigan (3-0) worked the shot clock down, Anthony Wright found Sims on a backdoor cut for an emphatic, two-handed dunk that gave the Wolverines a four-point lead with 28 seconds remaining.

The Bruins (2-1) weren’t done. Nikola Dragovic’s 3-pointer with 5 seconds to go cut it to 53-52. But Harris hit two free throws and blocked Collison’s potential tying 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Collison and Jrue Holiday each had 13 points to lead UCLA (2-1). Shipp, the Bruins’ second-leading scorer, was stymied by Michigan’s 1-3-1 zone. Averaging 12.5 points coming into the game, Shipp was held to just five on 2-for-9 shooting.

No. 10 Duke 83, Southern Illinois 58

New York — Gerald Henderson scored all 20 of his points in the second half, finally helping Duke find some offensive rhythm.

Jon Scheyer and Kyle Singler each added 13 points for the Blue Devils (4-0), who advanced to the championship round of the tournament benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer.

Carlton Fay had 17 points to lead Southern Illinois (2-1), which spent most of the game in foul trouble. Big man Nick Evans fouled out with 7:59 left, and Tony Boyle was gone with just under 7 minutes to go.

The Salukis pulled to 55-47 with about 9 1/2 minutes left before Singler hit a three-pointer.

No. 13 Memphis 83, Chattanooga 71

San Juan, Puerto Rico — Doneal Mack scored 19 points, and Shawn Taggart had 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead Memphis in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off.

Mack went 5-for-9 from 3-point range for the Tigers (3-0), who had four scorers in double figures. Robert Dozier added 18 points and eight rebounds.

Stephen McDowell led the Mocs (0-3) with 27 points, including 7-for-12 shooting on 3s. Nicchaeus Doaks added 15 points and 16 rebounds.

Seton Hall 63, No. 19 Southern California 61

San Juan, Puerto Rico — Jeremy Hazell scored 17 points and Eugene Harvey hit a free throw with 5 seconds remaining for Seton Hall in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off.

After Harvey missed his second free throw, USC’s Daniel Hackett missed a three-pointer at the buzzer.
