Englewood, Colo. Denver TE Jackson goes on IR
The Denver Broncos placed tight end Nate Jackson on injured reserve Thursday, bringing back Chad Mustard to take his place on the roster.
Jackson injured his right hamstring in practice Wednesday. He appeared in 10 games this season, catching 11 passes for 84 yards and one touchdown.
Mustard, a fifth-year tight end from North Dakota, has been waived numerous times in his NFL career, most recently by Denver on Nov. 4.
Browns’ Quinn to play with broken finger
Berea, Ohio — Brady Quinn got his first NFL win as a starter almost single-handedly.
Quinn broke his right index finger during the first half of Monday night’s game against the Buffalo Bills, but Cleveland’s new starting quarterback stayed in and led the Browns to a 29-27 victory.
Despite the injury, Quinn will try to play Sunday when the Browns host the Houston Texans.
Cowboys will put Jones on IR
Irving, Texas — The mystery surrounding injured Dallas Cowboys rookie Felix Jones has been solved, and the running back will not play again this season.
Jones has a torn ligament beneath his left big toe, sustained two weeks ago while doing rehabilitation on the left hamstring he hurt Oct. 12. The hamstring is healed, but he will need surgery on the toe and up to six months to fully recover.
Until Thursday, when announcing that Jones will be placed on injured reserve, the Cowboys had not reported the toe injury.
Vikings give Peterson day off
Eden Prairie, Minn. — The Minnesota Vikings gave Adrian Peterson’s body a break.
Peterson was held out of Thursday’s practice; he did some running in the pool instead. Coach Brad Childress said he decided the NFL’s leading rusher needed a day to rest after taking plenty of hard hits in last week’s game against Tampa Bay.
Defensive end Jared Allen, who’s dealing with a sprained shoulder, was the other notable name on Thursday’s did-not-practice list.
Former Packers CB Jeter dies
Milwaukee — Former Green Bay Packers cornerback Bob Jeter, the father of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men’s basketball coach Rob Jeter, has died.
Wisconsin-Milwaukee spokesman Kevin O’Connor said Rob Jeter learned of the death Thursday afternoon and went to join family members in Chicago, where his father lived. He said Rob Jeter told him by phone that his father was believed to have died of cardiac arrest.
O’Connor said Rob Jeter plans to rejoin his team in time for Saturday’s game with crosstown rival Marquette.
Bob Jeter, who was 71, played on the Green Bay teams that won the NFL championship in 1965 and the first two Super Bowls. He played for the Packers from 1963-70 and was with the Chicago Bears from 1971-73. He was inducted in 1985 into the Packers Hall of Fame.
