Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 20, 1908: “With Thanksgiving Day fast approaching, there is a scarcity of turkeys the likes of which has never been seen in Douglas County. Chickens are plentiful but fresh eggs seem extremely hard to find. Good country butter, however, is back on the market. Some turkeys may be sold for as high as 25 cents a pound, which is distressing to many housewives. … A.C. James says 125 good sheep have been stolen from his farm near Baldwin and has posted a $100 reward for word of who is guilty. . . . The eighth annual show of the Douglas County Poultry Assn. opened today at 919 Mass. with more than 300 chickens on display.”
