Old Home Town – 25 years ago
After a long meeting with residents commenting on churches being built and expanded in residential areas, the City-County Planning Commission delayed for 90 days a decision on requiring use permitted upon review permits for such cases. The delay was a victory of sorts for supporters of the planned expansion of the St. Lawrence Catholic Center, 1631 Crescent Road. Some neighbors of the proposed expansion sought to force the church to seek a UPR.
Copies of the latest Newsweek magazine with the ABC movie “The Day After” on the cover disappeared fast from news stands. The film depicted the grim aftermath of a nuclear war and was set to air soon.
Changes for the pending downtown redevelopment plan were delayed again, but backers said it would not upset their timetable.
