Of Montreal rocks Liberty Hall, breaks moped

Of Montreal, the Athens, Ga., band that played at Liberty Hall Saturday night, left Lawrence on a sour note.

The band had packed its trailer and loaded its tour bus, which was parked outside the NewsCenter, 645 N.H., and at about 2 a.m. began to pull away towards its next destination, in St. Louis.

The only problem was not everything was buttoned down.

A moped belonging to bassist Davey Pierce was trapped beneath the trailer, sending sparks flying as the bus turned onto Seventh Street.

When the bus driver realized something was slowing the band’s exit from Lawrence, he pulled over, and band members spilled out of the tour bus. Pierce let loose a series of expletives when he saw the battered remains of his moped.

At least he can still ride in the tour bus, which is presumably better suited for ferrying rock stars than the destroyed two-wheeler.

Here’s a photo of what may have been the ill-fated moped.
