Big 12 Men: Post-Beasley ‘Cats cruise

Kansas State 96, Florida A&M 57

Manhattan – Denis Clemente had 19 points, and Jacob Pullen added 17, helping Kansas State open the post-Michael Beasley era with an easy 96-57 victory over Florida A&M Friday night.

Kansas State relied heavily on Beasley last season, reaching the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 12 years behind the All-American. Now that he’s gone to the NBA, playing for the Miami Heat, the Wildcats hope to keep winning behind relentless defensive pressure and a balanced offense.

“Everybody makes such a big deal about Mike and I wish I was still coaching him, he’s that good, but the one place that he bailed us out every time was rebounding,” KSU coach Frank Martin said. “We don’t have one guy who can be as good a rebounder as he was, so it’s got to be a collective effort. A week into the season, we have that going for us.”

Kansas State won its 12th straight home opener.
