Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 11, 1908: A Missouri Valley basketball league was formed in Kansas City yesterday at a meeting of the Missouri Valley Conference. Six schools are included, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Drake, Nebraska and Washington of St. Louis. F.H. Everhardt of Washington was elected president and Dr. Ray Clapp of Nebraska is secretary. It is a league that has been forming for some time and one that will draw a good deal of attention. There will be two divisions and the winner of each will play for the title cup.

More than 500 of the old friends and admirers of Dr. Francis Huntingdon Snow gathered at the university yesterday to pay a last tribute to the noted scientist and former chancellor of the university. Many notables and university alumni traveled considerable distances to be here for the event, so richly deserved by the late Dr. Snow. Many speeches were eloquent.

Another major bootlegger was arrested here and jailed yesterday as the local crackdown on such people continued.
