Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 9, 1908: “The most wholesale robbery that has been pulled off at the university in years has occurred. Thursday afternoon between half past four and five o’clock, $70 in money, $50 in checks and $30 worth of valuable engineering instruments belonging to the university are gone. Most of the thievery was taken at the check stand for the Kansas-Washburn football game. The work was done cleverly and was well-planned and the sneak thief involved knew what he was doing. : The Sutton Co. which has been awarded the electric line franchise here is due to get to work as soon as possible and has two years to get done. : A big corn-judging contest is scheduled soon and a number of prizes are planned for those with the best productions. : The Santa Fe has reinstated two trains it took off its local routes recently because of the pressure from the public. Railways traffic has been heavy and it appears the lines are needed.”
