Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 8, 1908: “With every senatorial district heard from, the Republicans will have 35 members and the Democrats three in the coming Kansas Senate. In the House, Republicans will have 85 votes and the Democrats 35. Those figures are tentative since all the final results are not yet in. : L.A. Sears, former Douglas County citizen, has been elected to Congress from his district in Ohio. He was born here and attended Lawrence Business College. He left here 20 years ago and has been back for occasional visits. : The local company that last night was granted a franchise is due to get busy at once building an electric rail line. The line will include the university and North Lawrence and is due to be completed in two years. A $5,000 guarantee has been posted.”
