From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 3 1908: “The Douglas County Farmers Institute will have an all-day meeting at Fair-view Church Nov. 6 and it should be of utmost value to every farmer and livestock raiser in the region. Much is gained from such all-day sessions where much data is exchanged. : Voting is reported running heavy in every local ward and nationally the turnouts are also expected to be outstanding. .: The general offices of the Union Pacific Railroad are considering assisting building a new bridge across the Kaw River here. It has been under consideration for some time and local officials are quite interested in sharing in the project. : The state board of health and its inspectors held a conference at the university to lay plans for testing of foods for public safety. No definite campaign has been announced but a good deal of planning is being done.”
