¢Justin Shmalberg received a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, on May 17.

Shmalberg is a 2000 graduate of Lawrence High School and a 2004 graduate of Kansas University.

He will be working in small animal and equine anesthesia and acupuncture at the University of Florida School of Veterinary Medicine, Gainesville.

¢The National Piano Guild auditions were the week of May 12 at Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt. Eighty students from the studios of Carol Cook, Mary Cornwell, Elaine de San Miguel, Jean Drumm, Sally Finck, Sarah Higgins, Janet Johnson, Trilla Lyerla and Michelle Rautmann performed for a professional adjudicator, chosen by the national organization. Each student received a certificate, pin and report card and a year’s membership in the National Fraternity of Student Musicians. Kay Boyles from Oklahoma City University, a professional accompanist, served as this year’s adjudicator.

¢Kansas University announces area students who completed the Global Awareness Program certification. The program, launched by International Programs in fall 2004, recognizes students for studying abroad, taking courses with an international focus, learning foreign languages and being involved in international co-curricular activities.
