Candidate files for County Commission

A rural Lawrence man on Thursday filed as a candidate for the 2nd District Douglas County Commission seat.

Grant Eichorn, 41, a Republican, has held a position on the Lawrence-Douglas County Metropolitan Planning Commission for almost five years.

“I’ve really enjoyed being on the commission and serving,” he said.

Eichorn said he had been considering running for county commission for some time. He said he wants to see a continuation of discussions about industrial development, growth pressures on the city of Lawrence and infrastructure costs.

Eichorn said the county also should look at North Lawrence and the urban growth area around it, including farmland and river bottoms, and decide what it wants for that area.

Eichorn owns Rueschoff Locksmiths, 3727 W. Sixth St. He is married and has one child.

Eichorn is the second Republican candidate to file in the 2nd District. David L. Brown, of Baldwin City, filed last week as a Republican. So far no Democrats have filed.

The 2nd District seat currently is held by Republican Bob Johnson, who decided not to seek re-election.
