All-Sunflower honors
Free State High junior third baseman Kelsey Leinmiller-Renick earned a second-team berth on the All-Sunflower League softball team as selected by league coaches. Teammates Kayley Lane and Catherine Smith earned honorable mention, as did Lawrence High’s Kalli McClure and Lauren Massey.
James inks with Drake
Free State sprinter Shaun James recently signed a letter of intent to run track at Drake University. James, a recent FSHS graduate who paced the Free State boys track and field team most of the season, competed in the 200- and 400-meter runs.
Olympic wrestling clinic
Former United State Olympian Ken Chertow will be conducting his Gold Medal Training Camp in Baldwin City, at Baker University, May 30 through June 3.
Chertow was an Olympian in 1988 and also was a three-time NCAA All-American during his career at Penn State University. After a coaching stint at Penn State and Ohio State University, Chertow began working with young wrestlers of all ages, producing more than 500 state champions in the past decade.
This weekend, campers will be instructed in the elements of technique, drilling, live wrestling and sport science.

Eudora baseball awards
The Eudora High baseball awards banquet took place May 21 at the high school.
Eudora players named to the All-Frontier League first team were Matthew Abel, outfield, and Chad Krutz, third base; second team: Brian White, pitcher; and honorable mention: Morgan Abel, first base.
Matthew Abel was named to the Class 4A all-state first team, and Krutz was named to the all-state second team.
Team awards were given to the following: Evan Cleveland, Spark Plug Award; Morgan Abel, Outstanding Leader; Bryan Kindle, Most Inspirational; Dylan Rust, Stopper of the Year; Brian White, Pitcher of the Year; William Gadberry, Defensive Player of the Year; Krutz, Offensive Player of the Year; and Matthew Abel, Most Valuable Player.
Gridiron game
Local products Scott Williams, Craig Rosenstengle and Ryder Werts, of Free State, and Tyler Hunt and Jared Vinoverski, of Lawrence High, have been selected to participate in a Kansas City-area metro football all-star game, that will be played at 7 p.m. June 19 at Blue Valley Northwest Activities Center.
Each played a huge role on his team this season, with Hunt and Vinoverski leading the Lions in rushing and receiving, respectively.
Rosenstengle led the Firebirds in total offense last fall, while Williams anchored both the offensive and defensive lines, and Werts was the captain of the FSHS defense.
LHS soccer camp
Lawrence High boys and girls coach Matt Anderson has announced the dates for his youth soccer camp.
The camp will run from July 14-16 at Holcom.
