From the Lawrence Daily World for May 27, 1908: “J.R. Koontz, general freight agent of the Santa Fe Railway estimates that Kansas will produce more than 90 million bushels of wheat this year, 90,7000,000 to be exact. He seldom misses the final total by very much unless bad weather intervenes. : For the first time in state history, the number of prisoners at the state penitentiary in Lansing ran up to 1,300.”
