From the Lawrence Daily World of May 25, 1908: “Rev. Wm. A Quayle, pastor of St. James Methodist Episcopal Church in Chicago, today was elected bishop of that denomination. Dr. Quayle is the former president of Baker University, the state Methodist college of Kansas. He has had an outstanding career in his rise to the new position. . . . The Union Pacific Railway will install a motor train service between here and Topeka within the next four weeks, adding on to the train that now runs from Leavenworth to Lawrence”
