Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World of May 24, 1908: “Something of a sensation occurred in Leavenworth yesterday when a Presbyterian church pastor was ousted because he had written some ‘fool’ letters to one of the younger girls in the congregation. The mother of the girl reported the letters and though the pastor pleaded for mercy, he was let go. : One of the things that many of the participants in the weekend regatta here learned is that the Kaw River is very wet. Many in the canoeing activities, in particular, wound up in the water.”
