From the Lawrence Daily World of May 19, 1908: “A May Fete, to be held on The Hill this weekend, will be a decided innovation to arouse student interest and perhaps to become an annual event. This is patterned after May Day festivities on campuses in the east and it has the promise to become a major annual highlight at KU. : The country and village schools in our county are to graduate 114 from the eighth-grade level. A baby was born last year for every two sections of land and the population is expected to keep growing.”
