Manhattan ? Kansas State scored a run in the eighth inning and slipped by Kansas University’s baseball team, 5-4, Saturday at Tointon Stadium.

With the victory, Kansas State (26-27 overall, 10-16 Big 12 play) secured a spot in the Big 12 tournament. Kansas (30-26, 9-17) has work to do with one regular season game left.

Saturday’s game was an entertaining back-and-forth affair with the Wildcats getting the last blow. In the bottom of the eighth, Dane Yelovich led off the inning with a soft single that fell just in front of KU centerfielder Nick Faunce. Yelovich then stole second and scored when Derek Bunker poked a single up the middle.

Kansas was retired in order in the ninth inning, and now has lost three in a row.

Depending on how Saturday’s Oklahoma State-Oklahoma game finishes up, Kansas still could control its own destiny in qualifying for the eight-team Big 12 tournament. First pitch Sunday is 2 p.m. at Tointon Stadium.
