District recognizes veteran teachers

The Lawrence school board this week recognized teachers who have served a quarter-century in the profession.

Educators celebrating 25 years of service: Lynn Basow, Free State orchestra teacher; Krin Bowman, Quail Run kindergarten teacher; Trish Bransky, Southwest Junior High principal; Cindy Brickell, occupational therapist; Patty Coffey, Southwest math teacher; Kathy Gyles, West Junior High math teacher; Chris Heider, Langston Hughes kindergarten teacher; Marcia Hershiser, Sunset Hill librarian; Cheryl Hickey, Quail Run third-grade teacher; William Inzer, Central Junior High English teacher; Bill Kelly, South Junior High science teacher; Indira Lien, Kennedy special education teacher; Annette McDonald, Free State math teacher; Katherine Mehl, technology integration specialist; Cathy Myers, Broken Arrow librarian; Lois Orth-Lopes, a Cordley music and autism resource teacher; Kathy Wagner, West math teacher; and Paula Warren, occupational therapist.

Superintendent Randy Weseman also presented this year’s Outstanding Citizen Award to Charles Anthony Silvestri for his volunteer work with vocal music classes at both high schools. Silvestri is a local educator, lyricist and poet.
