Local teachers proposed an overall compensation increase topping 18 percent during contract talks with the school district. The district had yet to unveil its proposed package, but it was obvious it could not be that generous, an official said.

Douglas County was taking another shot at fixing the indoor firing range at the Judicial and Law Enforcement Center, a range that had been shut down almost immediately after the building opened in 1976 because of problems with fumes from the firearms.

Seven Kansas University faculty members were selected to receive teaching awards for the 1982-83 academic year. They were Edwyna Gilbert, William R. Blue, Allan Cigler, Camilla Wilson, Dr. Sechin Cho, Donn W. Parson and Hester I. Thurston.
