Students of the Month for May 2008 at Oskaloosa High School were Braden McGinnis, ninth grade; Kyra Coffman, 10th grade; Glen Chess, 11th grade; and Erik VanHoozier, 12th grade. The students were treated to lunch on May 7 at Henry T’s in Lawrence by the OHS Future Business Leaders of America.

Cadet Jacob Von Feldt, son of Doug and Alyson Von Feldt, Lawrence, was promoted to the rank of Private First Class at Missouri Military Academy’s Middle School in Mexico, Mo. He is a member of the Academy’s 119th Corps of Cadets.

Alaina Flory, Lawrence, is a new junior member of the American Angus Association. As a junior member, Flory will be eligible to register cattle in the American Angus Association, participate in programs conducted by the National Junior Angus Association and take part in association-sponsored shows and other national and regional events.

Braxton Nottingham, Lawrence, received a $4,500 Lew Wentz Foundation Project Award at Oklahoma State University for 2008-09.
Nottingham is a junior majoring in biochemistry and molecular biology. He is a graduate of Baldwin High School and the son of David and Jeanne Nottingham, Lawrence.

Amanda Mayhew, Lawrence, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in global studies on May 3 from Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, Calif.

Kaye Adkins, Lawrence, associate professor of English at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, received the Jesse Lee Myers Excellence in Teaching Award during a faculty and staff awards ceremony on April 29.

Sarita Patterson, Lawrence, participated in the Washington Semester Abroad at American University in Washington, D.C.
Patterson, a student at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, participated in the International Law and Organizations program.

Jon Green, Lawrence, has been named to the dean’s list for the 2008 winter quarter at DePaul University in Chicago. To be named to the dean’s list, students must earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or above.

Robert Brubaker, Lawrence, will graduate with a Bachelor of Arts today from Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina. Commencement will begin at 3 p.m. in the Salina Bicentennial Center.

Three area students were named to the honor roll for the fall 2007 semester at Garden City Community College. Students named to the dean’s list earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 to 3.99. Students named to the honorable mention list earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 to 3.199.

Overbrook: Brianna Eden, honorable mention.

Alek Joyce has been selected to participate in the Kansas State University College and Engineering Science and Summer Institute. The institute will be May 26-30. Joyce is a sophomore at Free State High School and the son of Jim and Holli Joyce.
