4-H and FCE News

The Clinton Eagles 4-H Club met on April 28 at Wakarusa Valley School. Kahlyn Heine, president, called the meeting to order. Amanda Snodgrass, song leader, led the club in singing “Down by the Bayou.” Roll call was answered by what is your favorite season. Kirstyn Heine, vice president, read the minutes. Dustin Hoyt, treasurer, reported the club finances. Mary Garzillo and Dalton Welsh, county council representatives, talked about community service, 4-H insurance and a new Douglas County Web site. Piper Hubbell, recreation leader, announced the recreation would be tag. Lanaea Heine, community leader, told the club about county camp, camp counselors, add/drop day, VIP training, Bromelsick Memorial, after school day camp, horticulture fun camp, and a multicounty performing arts camp. Charles Garzillo, poultry leader, talked about poultry blood testing. Lisa Gaston told the club about scholarship forms. Kim Deiker told the club about the Swap Meet. Erica Spurling, community service leader, thanked all who helped with the Rockhaven trail cleanup. Three new members joined. The next meeting will be on May 19 at Wakarusa Valley School.

Kanwaka FCE will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the home of Mary Ann Strong. The lesson topic will be “African Violets.” Ruth Wyatt will give the lesson.

Douglas County FCE in cooperation with Kansas State Research and Extension Family and Consumer Sciences announce the June program “Destination Vermont.” Elaine Wilson, northeast area educational program committee chair, will be presenting. Deadline for registration is May 30. The event will be at 9:30 a.m. on June 6 in Deal Six Auditorium at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds. For more information, call 843-7058.
