The Kansas University baseball team lost the first game of a three-game series against Missouri, 5-3, Friday night at Hoglund Ballpark.
Kansas took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third when Buck Afenir's groundball was misplayed by MU shortstop Andrew Thigpen. Thigpen's wild throw to first scored two runs.
No. 14 Mizzou retook the lead in the top of the fifth with two runs and added another on Jonah Schmidt's home run in the sixth. The Tigers scored on a sacrifice fly to center in the eighth to make it 5-2.
KU (29-23, 8-14) put together a rally in the bottom of the eighth that scored one. In the ninth, the Jayhawks had the bases loaded with two outs, but Erik Morrison struck out to end the game.
MU pitcher Aaron Crow improved to 11-0 this season. KU's Nick Czyz was tagged with the loss.
