New York – Jason Giambi and the sluggish New York Yankees suddenly turned sluggerish. The Yankees played home run derby Thursday, with Giambi, Johnny Damon, Robinson Cano and Wilson Betemit connectings. Mike Mussina (5-3) won his fourth straight start and earned his 255th career victory.

Rangers 5, Mariners 0

Seattle – Ian Kinsler hit a two-run homer and then got hit by a pitch, setting up a fourth-inning brawl.

White Sox 6, Twins 2

Chicago – Jermaine Dye homered for the third straight game, and Juan Uribe added a go-ahead two-run drive in the fifth. John Danks (3-3) made it through five innings, giving up six hits and two runs, and Chicago won for just the second time in nine games.

Red Sox 8, Tigers 1

Detroit – Josh Beckett got eight strikeouts, including the 1,000th of his career, and Kevin Youkilis hit another home run at Comerica Park to lead Boston.

Beckett (4-2) gave up six hits and a run in seven innings and Youkilis hit his third home run in two games, giving him eight in Detroit. he hasn’t hit more than two outside Fenway Park.

Toronto – Dioner Navarro hit a grand slam in the 13th inning after Carl Crawford drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly.
