To the editor:

The board of directors and employees of Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care would like to thank the volunteers and community for our second and very successful 3d fundraiser. This year’s event was to raise money for a four-bedroom, 24-hour staffed VNA Hospice Care Cottage.

Volunteer members throughout Douglas County entertained their invited guests in varied ways with dinners, wine tasting, cocktail parties, barbecues and even an art auction! The evening culminated at the Lawrence Arts Center with all the guests gathering to enjoy delicious donated desserts and dancing. Three “celebrity” couples entertained the crowd with their intricate and well rehearsed dance routines.

Cathie Rodkey, fundraising chair, announced during the evening that the 3d goal of $35,000 was surpassed, and by the end of the evening more than $65,000 had been donated for the Hospice Care Cottage. Thanks to our great community, VNA continues to receive offers to host future events to raise more funds for the VNA Care Cottage. Thank you, Douglas County, for your caring and continued generosity.
