From the Lawrence Daily World for May 6, 1908: “A law and order league that is said to be forming here will be a good thing for this town. Lawrence long has needed a good move toward moral reform and if the right people are in charge, the league could move us in that desired direction. : A local ordinance has been passed by the city council doing away with the firing of explosives of any kind in the business district in celebration of July the Fourth.”
