The Lawrence area’s congressman voted in favor of the nuclear freeze resolution because he said he believed the two superpowers, America and the Soviet Union, were at an equal level in the arms buildup. U.S. Rep. Jim Slattery, D-Kan., also supported an amendment to revoke the resolution in case of bad faith by the Soviets.
