Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for May 5, 1908: “A warrant has been sworn out for a 40-year-old man who assaulted a 65-year-old local farmer with a club in a dispute over over livestock. He will be charged with assault with intent to kill. Sons of the victims found the father and carried him from a field to the house. It was a brutal beating. … George Innes was re-elected president of the local school board and there is evidence that there will be an increase in teacher salaries. The local superintendent makes $2,000 a year and several principals get $1,600.”
