"Young Again" by Lee Carlson

Young Again

By Lee Carlson

pert young lass

golden curls trailing

across her neck

skipping to her lesson

carefree journey with

one serious regret

piano practice undone

‘what will teacher think?’

five year old arrives

with a plan

and a question

‘Nora, can we just talk?’

talk they do and then some

’til the precocious one offers

another stalling request,

‘you play and I’ll dance!’ –

birthing a creative duet

years rush by, she’s dancing still

singing, laughing, loving –

to this very day talking,

telling stories her forte indeed

the mature woman still young
