You need to clarify in your headlines that it was the NOVICE (aka "Junior Varsity") team that finished second at Austin. KU Varsity finished third to Texas and KSU. Of course, by only telling a partial truth, you let everyone assume the dominant Jayhawks once again beat the lowly Wildcats!!KSU Alum Class of '84Varsity Boats Finish Second in Austin Courtesy: Kansas State University Release: 05/03/2008 Courtesy: Kansas State University AUSTIN, Texas Kansas State pushed Tri-Meet titlist Texas to the end, but fell short in the two varsity races as the Wildcats took second in the First and Second Varsity 8+ competitions. The Longhorns took the crown at the event featuring the three Big 12 programs of Kansas, Kansas State and Texas, winning for the seventh-consecutive year. Texas took race wins in four of the six that took place Saturday from Lady Bird Lake in Austin, Texas. The Wildcat First Novice 8+ crew opened the morning of racing for K-State and finished third in their race. Off the start the Cats attacked their in-state rivals and were even with Kansas up to the 500-meter mark. With Texas taking a comfortable lead through the middle 1,000 meters, Kansas squeezed out to a four-seat advantage over the Cats. The Cats raced hard, but as they moved into the last 500 meters they ran out of steam. Saturday Results2N4: 1. Texas 'A' 7:52.9, 2. Kansas 8:02.0, 3. Texas 'B' 8:06.02N8: 1. Kansas 7:01.2, 2. From the Texas University website - AUSTIN, Texas -- The University of Texas varsity and novice rowing teams combined for four victories as the Longhorns claimed their seventh straight Big 12 Invitational championship, a title that UT has never relinquished.Texas won the title, totaling 54 points, while Kansas finished second with 45 points and Kansas State placed third with 39 points. Each race was weighted with the first varsity eight race receiving the most points, followed by the second varsity eight, first varsity four, first novice eight and second novice eight.I don't think the article is talking about an individual race, but the overall team scores.
