Eudora Boy Scout Troop 64 participated in the 21st annual Scouting For Food drive April 19 in Eudora, along with Cub Scout Pack 3064, Eudora Girl Scouts, Eudora 4-H Club members and students from the Eudora High School government class.

More than 2,500 cans and boxes of food were collected for the Eudora Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ.

Troop 64 Scouts participating were Alex Whitten, Tom Stanley, Colin Forsberg, Devon Middleton, Andrew Briery, Steven Wimmer, Evhan Sours and others. Troop 64 Scouters and adults included Jerry Criqui, John Scott, Jim Briery, Jim Morrison, Tim Middleton, Roy Wimmer and Dan Sours.

The annual community service project in Eudora has been expanded to include Girl Scouts, Eudora 4-H Club and the high school government class.

Cub Scout Pack 3064 is chartered to Eudora United Methodist Church, and Boy Scout Troop 64 is chartered to Eudora Lions Club.

¢Boy Scout Troop 64, chartered to Eudora Lions Club, camped at Tuttle Creek Reservoir on April 25 and attended a Merit Badge Conference at Kansas State University on April 26. Scouts were instructed in courses such as weather, first aid, safety, computers, insect study, animal husbandry, aviation and many others.

Scouts attending were Andrew Briery, Colin Forsberg, Devon Middleton, Jonathan Morrison, Jim Adams, Tanner Brunton, Zachary Dudley, Simon Elwell, Chance Hamm and Blake Jopp. Adults attending were Glenn Jackson, John Scott, Jim Morrison, Jerry Criqui and A.J. Lavery. Also attending were Nathan Bradley, Connor Bradley, Patrick Bradley and Nathan Gentleman, along with adults Damon Bradley, Greg Elwell and Duane Gentleman. The efforts of KSU and the Coronado Boy Scout Council were greatly appreciated.

More than 118 Boy Scouts and adults attended the Pelathe District Spring Camporee that took place April 11-13 at Camp Bromelsick west of Lawrence. Nine patrols from Lawrence, Eudora and Baldwin City Troops 52, 59, 60, 64, and 65 had the opportunity to learn several scouting skills and compete in events including land navigation, GPS, Morse code, knots and lashings, and “Find the Lost Scout.”

First place in the overall event competition was Lazy Rabid Squirrel Dragon Knights Patrol of Troop 64. Second place was MPS Patrol of Troop 59. Third place was the Owl-Monkeys Patrol of Troop 59. Many patrols received Merit Award Ribbons.

A Saturday evening campfire following the competition was filled with skits and singing. After breakfast Sunday morning, there was a short church service followed by an awards presentation ceremony.

¢Fourteen Lawrence Boy Scout and Cub Scout Units participated in the 21st annual “Scouting-For-Food” Food Drive on April 19. Scouts distributed fliers to homes in Lawrence April 10-18 to alert people they would collect food for the community’s food pantries on April 19. All food received was taken to The Salvation Army, 946 N.H., where it was sorted and distributed to ECKAN, Trinity Interfaith Food Pantry, Penn House, Ballard Center and The Salvation Army. This year 5,668 items of food were collected.

Lawrence Cub Scouts included Pack 3052, sponsored by Broken Arrow School PTA; Pack 3055, sponsored by West Side Presbyterian Church; Pack 3057, sponsored by Lawrence Catholic School PTO; Pack 3059, sponsored by First Presbyterian Church; Pack 3071, sponsored by Prairie Park School; Pack 3072, sponsored by Quail Run PTO; Pack 3077, sponsored by Sunflower School PTO; Pack 3370, sponsored by Deerfield PTA; and Pack 3462, sponsored by Langston Hughes School PTO.

Lawrence Boy Scouts included Troop 53, sponsored by First Christian Church; Troop 55, sponsored by West Side Presbyterian Church; Troop 59, sponsored by First Presbyterian Church; Troop 60, sponsored by First Baptist Church; and Troop 52, sponsored by First United Methodist Church.
