FSHS sophomore wins regional tennis title

Free State High sophomore Michael Swank won the Kansas Class 6A Regional tennis title Thursday at the Lawrence Tennis Center.

Swank breezed through his first three matches in straight sets before winning a grueling three-set match over former state champion J.T. Christian of Olathe East. Swank won the first set, 6-3, lost the second set, 5-7, and won the third set, 6-4.

The Free State doubles team of Charlie Moffet and Blaine Kaehr, along with the Lawrence High doubles team of Ryan Abbott and Taylor Seratte also secured spots in next weekend’s state tournament with top-four finishes.
