Weather kits: What to keep on hand
In the event of an emergency, having a properly stocked emergency-preparedness kit can be key, according to Douglas County Emergency Management.
Emergency officials suggest keeping a kit in one or two sturdy containers and updating items to change for seasons and account for expiration dates.
In addition to the kit, they suggest collecting important documents, such as insurance papers, medical records and bank statements, in a fireproof or safe-deposit box.
Here are some items for your emergency-preparedness kit:
¢ Radio, with AM, FM and NOAA All-Hazard features.
¢ Flashlight and batteries.
¢ First-aid kit.
