Senate candidate to address Democrats

A Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate will speak to the Douglas County Democratic Party meeting at 10 a.m. today at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt.

Lee Jones, 57, of Overland Park, is a railroad engineer and was a lobbyist for the Brotherhood of Locomotive engineers from 1991 to 2001. Former U.S. Rep. Jim Slattery also has said he would seek the Democratic nomination.

The two are seeking the seat of Republican U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts.
