From the Lawrence Daily World for March 29, 1908: The Ephraim Vancil case was given to the jury at 10:35 this morning and after deliberating until 2:10 p.m. the jury returned a verdict of guilty of murder in the first degree. The penalty is to be life imprisonment at the state penitentiary. This was the second trial for Vancil for the poisoning murder of his wife. The first time there was a hung jury.”
