Lawrence resident pleads guilty to sexual battery

March 27, 2008

A 21-year-old Lawrence man pleaded guilty this morning to two charges stemming from a sexual assault last December.

Benjamin A. Meeks entered the pleas to aggravated battery and aggravated sexual battery. He had been scheduled to stand trial on Monday on one count of rape.

This morning, Meeks told Douglas County District Judge Michael Malone that he drove a woman from Club Axis, 821 Iowa, to his apartment in the 2400 block of Alabama, where he sexually assaulted her and hit her in the face. The attack occurred Dec. 28.

Malone set sentencing for May 9. Meeks faces up to 172 months in prison on the aggravated battery charge and up to 34 months in prison on the aggravated sexual battery charge. Kevin Babbit, Meeks' attorney, said he planned to seek a psychological evaluation of his client before sentencing.

Why not post a picture of this low life piece of crap?

Let everyone see what he looks like, because maybe he has done this before to someone else.

Why not just come out and say you 'know' that one of them crazed negroes raped the girl? Wait, this is Lawrence, everyone is really progressive and race doesn't matter. :rolls eyes:

Sorry to be pendantic, but if he pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual battery, that's not "Lawrence resident pleads guilty to rape" -- but I guess it's not as juicy a headline.

LJW better hope he's not savvy enough to file a libel suit for the mischaracterization.

He may not even go to jail if first time offence.

At least he admitted his fault. So often these guys never come clean about their atrocities. It's always somehow not THEIR fault.

They were making out, she freaked on him, insulting him and he popped her for screaming insults at him and she jumped out of the car.

Next time, just put her out of the car in a polite way.

...and now they've changed the headline.

Pretty sad when an award-winning paper has to have their published stories fact-checked by their readers.....

Has anyone noticed the sad fact that hitting the girl may cause him to spend FOUR times the amount of time in jail that he could get for the sexual assault? Don't know, just seems bassackwards to me.

Yes, and it is upsetting to see that. Does this mean sex offenses don't count? Or does it mean, many men have poor sexual performance, and it doesn't merit reprimands like a well aimed punch that his buddies would be proud of in a fight? So many avenues.

In a few years when this guy is back in the real world he can look forward to neighbors freaking out about their children simply because he'll be on the sex offender list.
