From the Lawrence Daily World for March 26, 1908: “Yesterday was a very ordinary day in Lawrence. The Water Company delivered nasty water to all its customers as usual and the city did nothing about it – as usual. Scientists at the university continue to warn that the local water is dangerous but nothing seems to get done about it. : Indications are that a local 5-year-old who loves to play with matches with his brother is responsible for two homes burning down here yesterday. His own home was the first.”
