Edgerton bank robber sentenced to 17 years

? A 55-year-old man was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court to serve more than 17 years in prison for robbing an Edgerton bank.

Dale Allen Robertson pleaded guilty in June to robbing First State Bank and Trust while armed with a revolver. The robbery occurred about noon June 6, 2007. Robertson was later arrested following a traffic stop in Lawrence, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office.

Robertson admitted that during the robbery he placed a plastic bag on the bank teller’s counter and demanded money. The teller was pregnant and Robertson kept his pistol pointed at the woman’s stomach before fleeing, prosecutors said.

Investigators identified Robertson after obtaining a series of color photographs taken earlier at a Wellsville bank where he was seen acting suspiciously. Witnesses identified the man in the Wellsville bank as the same one who robbed the Edgerton bank. An employee in the Wellsville bank recognized Robertson because Robertson robbed him at gunpoint 15 years ago, prosecutors said.
