A suspect in a reported rape at a Kansas University dormitory was arrested Tuesday on a warrant in Pratt County, according to the KU Public Safety Office.

Officers identified the suspect and issued a warrant for his arrest. According to the public safety office, a 19-year-old woman said she was raped by a man she knew at a room in Gertrude Sellards Pearson Hall. The alleged attack occurred between 1:45 a.m. and 3 a.m. March 9 .

A department report said the suspect, who was not a KU student, entered the room without permission.

I agree pudgy. It sounds like Mariann probably had a few unsavory experiences, and most likely didn't get to go to college on daddy's dollar, so she thinks that anyone who is more privileged than her (relatively speaking, of course) deserves to have something this atrocious happen to them. Bravo Mariann, you make women everywhere die a little inside by saying things like that.

wow Mariann, for someone who knows absolutely nothing about what happened, it;s surprising you place the blame on the girl so quickly. It sounds like the words of experience speaking here. How often did YOU do something like this? (you a closet jocoho???)

take the SOB out in the woods and beat the crap out of him. Then, cut off his **** so he can't do this ever again. THEN put him in prison for a long, long time!

The problem is not that he entered the girl's room without permission.

The problem is that he entered the girl without permission.

bshm needs to read what I wrote earlier. A resident can check in a visitor, but if they don't account for that visitor's whereabouts the entire time, the visitor occasionally goes wandering........and then things happen.

Yes, he entered the girl's room without permission, but that does not answer how he got into GSP in the first place. There is always someone sitting at the front desk when you first enter, and after 11 PM there are usually two people sitting behind a desk directly infront of the entrance waiting to check everyone in. There are other doors that someone could have opened for him, but after 11 an alarm will sound if those doors are opened.

"the suspect, who was not a KU student, entered the room without permission" Ahem, speed readers beware.

One problem with all the dorms is when a resident checks in a guest and then that guest takes a late night "walk" and then bad things sometimes happen. And the resident who checked the guest in never seems to be held accountable at all.

I hope that one day, we (including myself) can all stop misusing "begs the question." I don't mean to critique missmagoo's post but to make an observation. I doubt it will ever happen.

males CAN stay at gsp/corbin on the weekends, but they have to be escorted by a gsp/corbin resident and they have to leave either their KUID or DL at the front desk. this is too bad. but if she knew him, i guess it begs the question.. how did he get in?

There was talk of them changing the overnight rules for weekend guests a while ago, allowing males to stay on the weekends. Between 1:45am and 3am March 9 would have been late Sat./early Sun. depending on how you look at it. Maybe they have been changed.
